Introduction to upholstery - Upholster a footstool

During the course essential techniques to create a Victorian Style Lampshade will be demonstrated.You will start with a specially prepared kit and explore basic techniques like: wrapping a frame, applying the fabric and finishing with trim.

You will take home a finished lampshade, instructional handouts and the ability to start a project on your own that suits your decorating ideas.

The will be also an over viewed presentation about lampshades in general; different types of lampshades; putting the lamp and the shade together, fabric - what to use for the cover and what for the lining; effects of light on cover materials and much more.

Restoring upholster furniture is a practical way of saving money as well as highly satisfying recreation. It's also remains more of an art then technology.
Upholstering is a problem-solving activity.

Here is an excellent opportunity to create unique footstool and overcome upholstery challenges.You will also get expert’s advice how to restore upholstered furniture to its former glory.


The Cork House of Oakville, Ontario offered a one day course in "Upholstering a footstool using cork fabric". Participants made a beautiful footstool with new and exciting decorating medium

 


Riki Westlik of Guelph hosted two lampshade workshops. During the first workshop ladies learned basic techniques while working on the prepared kit. During the next meeting they were working on their own projects.


Pat Campbell of the Haliburton Spinners and Weavers, Minden hosted one day course in Victorian lampshade Making. The ladies successfully created a lampshade with Evelyn guiding them trough techniques.

 


Civic Center of Richmond Hill -during 5 weeks workshop on snowy February Fridays ladies were learning different lampshade decorating techniques while working on their own projects.


In July 2007, Creativity Classes were introduced at the Haliburton School of the Arts.
Handcrafted home accents reflect owner's personality and allow to customize items to blend with a decorating scheme. Decorative Interiors - 5 days workshop- showed students how: to make a fabric lampshade using different decorating techniques, sew a mosaic tapestry pillow or wall-hanger, upholster a footstool with traditional fabric or even tapestry and finish with decorative trim and nails.
